Visual surveys

Two guidebooks are available describing visual detection of emerald ash borer (EAB) infested trees. As a primary EAB detection strategy, this approach is not ideal because trees are often asymptomatic until the infestation is advanced. However, it can augment other detection strategies. If staff and stakeholders are knowledgeable about signs and symptoms of EAB infested ash trees this may elicit information about potentially infested or hazardous trees.
