Visual surveys
Two guidebooks have been produced describing visual detection of emerald ash borer (EAB) infested trees. As a primary EAB detection strategy, this approach is not ideal because trees are often asymptomatic until the infestation is advanced[40]. However, it can augment other detection strategies. If municipal staff, interest groups and homeowners are knowledgeable about signs and symptoms of EAB infested ash trees this may elicit information about potential new areas of infestation that can be investigated further.
